From washed-out slope to the best seat in the yard
Spring runoff had carved channels through this sloped backyard for years. We regraded the lot to move water away from the house, then terraced the slope with a retaining wall and a generous interlock patio.
A stone fire pit, fresh sod, and hardy perennial beds finished the space — built on a properly compacted base so it stays level through every freeze and thaw.
Our backyard went from a swamp every spring to the place the whole street hangs out. Not a single paver has moved through two winters.
